The small city of Udaipur contains a wealth of shopping, and all around the city there are large numbers of small local shops selling all kinds of gifts, rather from Western-style silver jewellery and textiles, to leather goods, silk saris and cloth lanterns. There is also large quantities of handmade paper, originating from nearby Jaipur.

Udaipur has gained quite a reputation over the years for its local craft works. Those shopping for a holiday souvenirs of their time in Udaipur may well like to consider one of the numerous miniature Rajput-Mughal paintings, which are in plentiful supply next to the Jagdish Temple and along the Lake Palace Road.

Many interesting textile stores also line the busy Lake Palace Road, along with a good choice of local gift shops, selling colorful wooden statues of much-loved Hindu gods.

The bazaars of Udaipur offer perhaps the most memorable shopping experience, although interestingly target the locals, rather than tourists. A number of bazaars spread outwards from the actual clock tower, on the eastern side of the Ganjaur Ghat.

Those shopping for either gold or silver jewellery will find that Udaipur's popular Bara Bazaar is the place to come, also being well known for its extensive selection of fabrics and beautifully worked saris.

Further silverware is sold at the Battiyanni Bazaar, while the Mochiwada Bazaar is perfect to those shopping for traditionally made shoes. Also in Udaipur is the Mandi Market, where the smell of freshly ground spices fills the air.
